Day 3 - UniMAP Orientation

Something least expected happen today. I became the emcee (English) for Majlis Sambutan Siswa-Siswi. This is one of the most important ceremony in UniMAP, where all the lecturers, deans, and vice cancellor gather together. I can't afford to screw up anything. Everything must be formal! At first, I did not have any translations for the script. I freaked out!! "Dude, you've gotta get me my script. This is my 1st time, and I can't spontaneously translate Malay to English with just one snap"

Later, one of the staffs gave me the full script with some edits due to grammatical errors. And so it began..."Announcing the arrival of His Hononary, General Brigadier Datuk Professor Dr. Kamaruddin bin Hussin, Vice Cancellor of University Malaysia Perlis"... Around 2.30pm-6.30pm, there will be speeches and talks. So, I decided to sleep upstairs...as I was so tired and worn-out. Imagine, 2 hours of sleep a day.

Day 2 - UniMAP Orientation

I had about 2 hours of sleep today. Let's see. Post mortem ends at 3am and I woke up at 5.30am. I just hate to force myself out of the bed! It's like "Come on Marcus, you don't have enough sleep. Just 5 more minutes alright". Anyways, my job was to take care of the Muamalat Bank counter. Ensure that no students cut the que and etc... At first, the whole place was hectic! Many of us PPMS don't really know what we should do. There were so much congestion in each counter. I myself was unsure of what I am supposed to do. But everything went well later...

In the evening, we went to Dewan 2020 for the Raptai Majlis Sambutan Siswa/Siswi. In this ceremony, all the students will have to sign the "Aku Janji" form. Upon signing this "Aku Janji" form, students have agreed to pay the Uni fees and abide to the rules & regulations of University Malaysia Perlis. Congratulations to all the new students of UniMAP. You are one of us now. XD

UniMAP orientation week

Finally, it is here. Woke up as early as 5.30am. All PPMS have to wear yellow shirts and vest that are provided by the Uni. This is it, all of us PPMS must work together to ensure everything runs smoothly. I am in charge of the luggage tent.

Here's the checklist for the 1st day:
  1. Register as a UniMAP student. Print offer letter
  2. Take the UniMAP bags, jackets, shirts and etc.
  3. Take the keys for their temporary hostel
Later, the weather turned a lil bad since it started drizzling. I was worried as there we're no wood planks underneath the luggages. If the rain gets worst, all the luggage will get wet. So, there's nothing left to do bt sing "Rain Rain go Away...Come again another day. We will need you...but not now". To my relieve, it stopped raining. Ohh thank goodness.

At first, the placement of the luggages were messy. The tagging method is useless when you need the students to find their own bags. So, I decided to change it a little. Separate the 2 digits & 3 digits tagging. Ever since then, it was way easier to find their bags.

At noon, I went round the Uni to find something else to do. The luggage tent had more than enough PPMS to handle it. I decided to do something else.
  • Helped the students to carry their luggage to their hostel
  • Talk & chat with their parents about UniMAP and etc
  • Helped other PPMS that are short of man power
  • Last but not least....bird watching!
In the evening, we gathered all the new intake in the Kampung Wai field. Guess what? It's Poco-Poco time! All new students of UniMAP must know the Poco-Poco Dance.

At night, all students & PPMS had to gather in Dewan 2020 for some speech by the Jabatan HEP (Hal-Ehwal Pelajar). PPMS will need t0 control the flow & attitude of the students.

Midnight, our Pengarah MT (Majlis Tertinggi) wanted to do a post mortem. All of us we're so tired...and this is how it looked like:

PPMS - The Final Touch

Prepare all the documents and paperwork as soon as possible. Print out all tags that will be used throughout the orientation week. Let the pictures do the talking alright haha.

Set up coloured flags which acts as indicators

Aligned the chairs in one straight line

Later at night, me and a few other friends made check points for tomorrow. There will be a few PPMS that will stanby around that check points to assist the new students.

Wow! This is something you don't see everyday

Happy Birthday Swan!

2 more days

We're close, really close in preparing ourselves for the new intake of UniMAP. Tents have been set up, chairs and tables are brought in, and almost everyone is busy with their own tasks. Could not wake up this morning for jogging cause I slept around 3am. Damn I miss my beauty sleep haha. Later, went to our bilik gerakan for discussions and to finalise most of our jobs. Besides that, we set up colour indicators to represent each Pusat Pengajian Kejuruteraan (PPK). We finished most of our paper works today, so that we could relax at the last day of our PPMS.

Briefing from our President of MSK

Scouting around the hostel area

Vice President telling us about our job description

Discussion with all the Ketua Biro

Ensuring the locations in the map are typed correctly

Colour Indicators for each PPK
